Quality Pasture Raised Beef

The Beef

  • Pasture-raised, grain-finished.
  • No growth hormones.
  • No antibiotics.
  • Processed and packaged locally.

Our grass-genetic South Pole livestock are pasture-raised, using rotational grazing to maximize nutritional value of the grass.  We then finish our beef on grain for a short period of time before sending to a local processor.

The Farm

Blackberry Hills Farm is the little valley we call home. It's where we raise registered South Pole cattle. And it's where the taste of quality home-grown beef was enjoyed first by our own family.

We supplied friends and relatives for several years, before expanding availability of custom beef orders.  And more recently began offering small-quantity USDA inspected beef, sold by the pound.

It's a simple story behind a simple goal....  quality beef.

Custom Whole/Half Orders

How does it work?

  • Decide if you want a half or a whole animal.
  • Select one of our suggested cut sheets and customize the specifics.
  • Mail the signed cut sheet with deposit to Blackberry Hills Farm to secure your order.
  • When the deposit is received, an appointment is made with the meat processor.
  • The animal is weighed upon delivery to the processor. That "live weight" determines full cost of the animal.
  • Pay Blackberry Hills Farm the remaining amount for animal.
  • After 14-18 days, when beef is packaged and ready for pickup, the processor will notify you.
  • Pickup your frozen beef and pay the processing fee (charged based on the "hanging weight" of animal).

The "hanging weight" is the weight of animal after slaughter, and it's approximately 60% of the "live weight" recorded before slaughter.

Freezer space?

You need approximately 1 cubic foot of freezer space per 25 pounds of beef.  That means....

  • For a half beef, 6 cubic feet.
  • For a whole beef, 12 cubic feet.

The “take home” meat is typically between 65% and 75% of the hanging weight....

  • For a half beef, 140 to 190 pounds.
  • For a whole beef, 250 to 375 pounds.
